The UBC Wellness Centre offers many resources and workshops, including a Wellness Info Desk, Sexual Health Shop, and Naloxone kits and training. It also hosts the Student Recovery Community, a safe space for students in recovery or exploring their relationship with alcohol, drugs, or any other addictive behaviours.
The Student Health Service is the primary avenue for UBC students to access healthcare. Practitioners work at Koerner Pavilion Hospital and Orchard Commons; students can book appointments for medical exams, vaccinations, prescriptions, and gender-affirming treatment. UBC also has a Nurse on Campus for drop-in conversations.
For other health services, you can access walk-in clinics and pharmacies. To find a walk-in clinic near you, check medimap.ca. Pharmacists can also assess some minor ailments, prescribe contraception, and renew prescriptions).
UBC offers limited counselling at Brock Hall and Brock Hall Annex. Note that this is not an emergency service: if you are experiencing an emergency (for example, if you have made plans with a timeline to harm or kill yourself), please call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room. To book an appointment with UBC Counselling, you can call or visit in-person. There are also counsellors in UBC residences.
UBC's AMS/GSS Health Plan, included in your student fees, also covers 80% of the cost of sessions with a registered counsellor, up to $1,250 annually.
The AMS' Sexual Assault Support Center (SASC) provides support and services for people who have experienced sexualized violence. Their Support and Advocacy Team provides confidential emotional and short-term crisis support. SASC also has advocacy and accompaniment services to help navigate medical and legal bureaucracy, as well as support groups for BIPOC Community Care and those who have survived sexualized violence.
UBC's Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office offers confidential, one-on-one support and safety planning.
Provides support for students who have been treated unfairly by UBC, especially in ways related to systemic oppression or violence.
Request accommodations and/or speak with a disability advisor about academics, housing, admission, and funding. Also employs students as note-takers.
Toward the Heart Harm Reduction Site Finder
Database of harm reduction sites within BC put together by BC CDC. Includes sites that provide naloxone and overdose prevention, safer sex supplies, and hormone injection.
The AMS Food Bank offers food, hygiene supplies, and information on additional resources for UBC students.
The UBC Food Hub offers programs to encourage food skills and increase food security. They also provide resources on finding low-cost food at UBC.
